Tbourida is everywhere in Morocco — and nowhere on a fixed timetable. There is no fantasia stadium with daily shows, but hundreds of moussems, competitions and celebrations spread across the year and the country. If you are wondering where to see fantasia in Morocco, the answer depends on what you are looking for: a village atmosphere, the best troupes in the country or a guaranteed show on a given evening.
Here are the three kinds of events, the 2026–2027 dates we know about and the options closest to Essaouira and Marrakech.
Where to see fantasia in Morocco: three kinds of events
1. Local moussems
The heart of tbourida. A moussem is a festival held around the shrine of a local saint, with a fair, prayers and — very often — a fantasia on a dusty track at the edge of town. Troupes come from the surrounding villages, families picnic in the stands and you may be the only foreigner in sight. Our guide to what a moussem is explains the customs.
2. Big gatherings and competitions
A few events bring together dozens or even hundreds of sorbas, with grandstands, official judges and television cameras. The level is the best in the country, the crowds are huge and the logistics need a little planning.
3. Dinner shows
On the outskirts of Marrakech, several venues combine a Moroccan dinner, folk music and a fantasia in an arena, every evening or most evenings. It is the only guaranteed option on a fixed date — but it is a show, not a festival. We compare the two in fantasia show in Marrakech: dinner show or real moussem?.
The big dates for 2026–2027
| Event | Usual period | 2026 dates | Region |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moussem of Moulay Abdellah Amghar | August | 7–14 Aug (134 sorbas) | Near El Jadida |
| Salon du Cheval | October | 13–18 Oct (17th edition) | El Jadida |
| Moussem of Sidi El Mokhtar | August | 22–25 Oct (postponed) | Chichaoua province |
| Moussem of Tan-Tan | Varies | 30 Oct – 3 Nov | Tan-Tan, far south |
| Hassan II Trophy final | June | Held in June 2026 | Dar Es-Salam, Rabat |
Dates for 2027 are usually announced a few weeks before each event; we keep them up to date in our moussem calendar.

Near Essaouira
The province of Essaouira and its neighbours, Chichaoua and Safi, are horse country. In summer and early autumn, small moussems with tbourida are held in the villages of the Chiadma and Haha regions, usually announced only a few days ahead by posters and word of mouth. Your riad, your driver or the café owner will know before any website.
In 2026, the easiest big fantasia to reach from the coast is the Moussem of Sidi El Mokhtar, from 22 to 25 October, about an hour inland on the road to Marrakech — see how to get to Sidi El Mokhtar from Essaouira and Marrakech. And in spring, the region holds a very different kind of event: the Regraga pilgrimage, a forty-day walk between the shrines of the Chiadma.
Near Marrakech
Around Marrakech, the moussems of the Haouz plain and the foothills of the Atlas often include tbourida in summer. The fantasia dinner shows on the city's outskirts run all year. And Marrakech is a good base for the Doukkala region: El Jadida and the Moussem of Moulay Abdellah are about two and a half to three hours away by road.

When is the season?
Most fantasias take place between late spring and autumn, after the harvest, with a peak in August. There are few or none during Ramadan, and winter is quiet. Moussem dates often follow the agricultural or religious calendar, so they can move from one year to the next — and, as in Sidi El Mokhtar in 2026, they are sometimes postponed.
How to get there
Fantasia grounds are rarely served by public transport, and the best passages happen late in the afternoon. A private driver who waits is the most comfortable solution.
- From Essaouira to Sidi El Mokhtar: an afternoon trip, or a stop on our Marrakech to Essaouira transfer (from €90 per vehicle at the time of writing).
- From Essaouira towards El Jadida: our Essaouira to Oualidia transfer covers most of the coast road; El Jadida is on request. See our Oualidia travel guide for a stopover by the lagoon.
- From Essaouira towards Tan-Tan: a long journey via Agadir — start with the Essaouira to Agadir transfer and plan a night on the way.
