Morocco has a good railway between its big northern cities, but many of the places travellers love most — Essaouira, Agadir, Taghazout, the Atlas valleys, Ouarzazate — are not on it. Buses cover these routes, and rental cars are easy to find, yet more and more visitors choose a private driver in Morocco for the long legs of their trip. Here is how it works, what it costs and when it is worth it.
What does a private driver in Morocco actually do?
A private transfer is simple: one vehicle, one professional driver, only your group on board. Your driver collects you at your hotel, riad or airport at the time you choose, loads the luggage and takes you directly to your next address. Stops for photos, a coffee or a visit are easy to add, and the price is fixed per vehicle, not per person.
It is different from a taxi in three important ways: the price is agreed in advance, the vehicle is chosen for your group and your luggage, and for airport pickups your driver tracks your flight and waits for you with a name sign.

The vehicles
- Sedans and SUVs (such as the Skoda Superb or Skoda Kodiaq) for up to three or four passengers with normal luggage.
- Vans (Mercedes Vito Tourer, Ford Transit, Renault Trafic) for up to seven passengers, families with strollers and surfers with boards.
- Minibuses (Mercedes Sprinter) for groups of up to seventeen.
- Premium options, such as a Mercedes E-Class or V-Class, or a Toyota 4x4, for a supplement.

What is included
Every transfer includes the vehicle, a professional driver, fuel, air conditioning and bottled water. Airport pickups include flight tracking, a name sign at arrivals and free waiting time. Motorway tolls are included on the Casablanca routes. Meals, entry fees and tips are not included.
Private driver, rental car or bus?
- Bus (CTM, Supratours): the cheapest option for solo travellers with light luggage. You need taxis at both ends and you cannot stop on the way.
- Rental car: great for independent road trips with plenty of time. Less fun in medina traffic, on mountain passes after dark or when parking in the old towns.
- Private driver: the most comfortable option for families, groups, first-time visitors and anyone who wants to look at the scenery rather than the road. For three or more people, it is often closer in price than you would expect.
Is it safe to travel by road in Morocco?
Motorways and main roads are generally in good condition, but the driving style can surprise first-time visitors: busy roundabouts, mopeds weaving through traffic, donkey carts in the countryside and unlit roads at night. Our drivers make these journeys every week, know where the road works and speed checks are, and plan departures to avoid mountain roads after dark. Travelling with young children? Tell us their ages when you book; if your child needs a specific car seat, bringing your own is the most reliable option.

A classic route might be: Marrakech airport → Marrakech → Essaouira → Agadir, flying home from Agadir.
