There is a particular moment every traveller knows: you walk through the last set of doors into arrivals and are met by a wall of faces and cardboard signs. If one of them has your name on it, the trip has started well. The Marrakech airport meet and greet is designed to make that moment boring in the best possible way — and a little preparation on your side makes sure it is.

Here is how it works, step by step, and what to do in the rare cases when it does not go to plan.

Before you fly: send us three things

  1. Your flight number, not just your arrival time. We follow the flight itself, so early landings and delays are absorbed automatically.
  2. The name to show on the sign. Usually the lead passenger's surname. For groups, the group or company name works well.
  3. A WhatsApp number that will work in Morocco. Roaming, an eSIM bought in advance, or a local SIM from the arrivals hall — anything that lets us reach each other.

If you are staying in a medina riad, add the riad's phone number too. Your driver can call ahead so that someone meets you at the drop-off point.

From the aircraft to the arrivals hall

After landing, you go through passport control, collect your bags from the belt and pass customs. Passport control is the unpredictable part: ten minutes on a quiet morning, sometimes an hour when several European flights land together. Do not worry about your driver while you queue. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after landing, which covers the vast majority of arrivals, and we can see when your flight actually touched down.

How Marrakech airport meet and greet works when you come out

As you leave the customs area, your driver is waiting in the arrivals area holding a sign with your name. Take a moment to scan the signs — there are often many of them at busy times. Once you have found each other, your driver takes over the luggage trolley and walks you to the car park a few minutes away. The car is air-conditioned, there is water on board, and twenty minutes later you are at your hotel or at the gate nearest your riad.

Cannot see your driver? Do this

It happens occasionally: the hall is crowded, the sign is behind a tall group, or you came out through a different door.

  1. Stay in the arrivals area. Do not walk out to the car park or the taxi rank looking for us.
  2. Message or call us on WhatsApp. Tell us what you can see around you.
  3. Wait at one fixed, visible point — near the exit doors or a café counter — and describe it.
  4. Do not leave with anyone else, however helpful they seem.

In practice, this is usually solved within a couple of minutes.

Beware of the "are you Mr Smith?" trick

At busy airports all over the world, unofficial drivers sometimes read names off other people's signs, or ask arriving passengers who they are waiting for, and then claim to be that driver. The fix is simple: never give your name first. Ask the person to tell you your name, your flight and where you are going. Your real driver knows all three.

Special situations

  • Lost luggage. Fill in the report at the baggage desk before leaving the hall, then message us. We will keep an eye on the time — and tell your riad you will be a little late.
  • Diverted or cancelled flight. Send us the new flight details as soon as you have them and we will rearrange the pickup.
  • You need an ATM or a SIM card. Tell your driver; stopping at a machine or a mobile counter in the terminal takes only a few minutes.

Should you tip your driver?

Tipping is appreciated in Morocco but never compulsory. If your driver waited through a long passport queue, wrestled your suitcases down a lane or gave you good tips for your stay, a small amount in dirhams is a kind gesture. If you would rather not, nobody will be offended.
